He whānui te mahi a te Kaitohutohu Mātanga Pūtaiao Matua ki te Pirimia (KMPMKTP). Ko te arotahi matua ko te tohutohu i te Pirimia mō te āhua o te whāngai kōrero a te pūtaiao ki ngā whakatau tikanga pai i Aotearoa.

Ko tā te KMPMKTP he:

  • tuku tohutohu rautaki puta noa i ngā rāngai, ā, kāore i te whai ki te whakaawe i ngā take whakahaere, pūtea rānei i roto i te pūnaha pūtaiao;
  • takawaenga e wātea ana ki te katoa i waenga i te hapori pūtaiao me te kāwanatanga;
  • tuku tohutohu mō ngā take tauwhāiti, ki te Pirimia, ētahi atu Minita rānei;
  • whai wāhanga ki te whakapiki i te mōhio ki te pūtaiao i Aotearoa;
  • āwhina kia wātea ake te pūtaiao ki te iwi whānui; me te
  • tuitui taura here i tāwāhi me ngā kaitohutohu pūtaiao me ngā pūkenga whakaaro o te ao.

He motuhake te KMPMKTP, ā, ehara i te kaimahi nā te Kāwanatanga. Nō reira e āhei ana ia ki te whakaputa i ōna whakaaro mō ngā take hira.

In 2019, the Royal Society Te Apārangi released a comprehensive report on gene editing. Juliet provided commentary on the report for the Prime Minister.

This is a developing focus in conjunction with Dr Gill Jolly and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA). Juliet also sits on the Hazard Risk Board.

In 2019 we provided advice after the Christchurch mosque shootings.

Tōkeke, kanorautanga me te whakaurunga i roto i te pūtaiao

This is a major focus for 2019 and 2020, addressed by a collection of intern projects – including two that are Tairāwhiti-based. In 2019, we facilitated a series of hui focused on increasing Māori  – and especially Māori rangatahi – participation in STEAM. This culminated in a special hui with Hon Dr Megan Woods, Minister of Research, Science and Innovation.
